Dated seller observations, not live quotes. Prices can change; tax and delivery are extra. Match the exact package shown below.

Choose the workflow, then the machine

Start with whether you need a grinder and whether you want to steam milk manually. A portafilter machine still needs preparation and cleaning, even with dosing or tamping assistance. Check the manual for water requirements, cleaning, descaling and the correct US electrical configuration. These are portafilter choices, not capsule or fully automatic bean-to-cup machines. Keep a working setup if these features do not solve a problem for you.

BREVILLE

Bambino Plus BES500BSS

A compact setup with automatic milk steaming

Research pick
BREVILLE Bambino Plus BES500BSSPhoto: BREVILLE
Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Bambino Plus BES500BSS · Brushed Stainless Steel, standalone machine without grinder.

A useful starting point when you want to choose a grinder separately and make milk drinks with less steam-wand practice. Its automatic milk mode handles texturing, while the portafilter keeps grinding, dosing and tamping in your hands.

  • 54 mm portafilter
  • Automatic milk texturing
  • Separate grinder required for whole beans
The tradeoff

There is no built-in grinder or assisted tamping. Budget for a suitable grinder and its counter space; Breville’s three-second heating claim describes the heating system, not the time to finish a drink.

The integrated grinder and assisted tamping system bring more of espresso preparation into one appliance. Consider it if you want dosing guidance but still want to learn how to texture milk with a manual steam wand.

  • 25 grinder settings
  • Assisted dosing and tamping
  • Manual steam wand
The tradeoff

Tamping assistance does not remove the need to adjust the grind for your beans. Milk is manually steamed; this is the Express Impress BES876, not the touchscreen Touch Impress.

The Premier combines an integrated grinder and weight-based dosing with espresso, drip-coffee and cold-brew modes. Hands-free milk programs make it a practical comparison for a household that wants several coffee styles without separate brewing appliances.

  • 25 grinder settings and built-in scale
  • Four hands-free frothing programs
  • Espresso, drip coffee and cold brew
The tradeoff

It still uses a portafilter and assisted tamper, so preparation and cleanup remain part of the routine. The Premier ES601 differs from the Mini and Pro; it does not offer the Pro’s separate hot-water mode.

DE’LONGHI

La Specialista Opera EC9555M

Assisted tamping with manual milk control

Research pick

Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the La Specialista Opera EC9555M · Metal, new machine with integrated grinder.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

Opera combines an integrated grinder, a tamping lever and selectable brewing temperatures. It is another route to a more contained puck-preparation workflow, with a manual steam wand for learning milk texture and a cold-extraction option for variety.

  • 15 grinder settings
  • Smart Tamping station
  • Three brewing-temperature selections
The tradeoff

Milk texturing is manual and the integrated setup needs room for its grinder and tamping controls. Temperature selections are manufacturer features, not temperatures we measured in the cup; confirm the US EC9555M model.

Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Classic E24 RI9380/46 · Brushed Stainless Steel, standalone machine; listing title E24, historical Evo Pro description/reviews shared.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

The Classic Pro E24 keeps the interface simple with rocker switches, a 58 mm portafilter and manual steam wand. Gaggia specifies a brass boiler for this generation. It suits someone who wants to supply a grinder and take more responsibility for preparation.

  • 58 mm portafilter
  • Brass boiler specified for E24
  • Manual steam wand; separate grinder
The tradeoff

There is no automatic dosing, tamping or milk texturing. The Amazon title identifies E24, but some description and reviews cover older Evo Pro machines; confirm the E24 generation with the seller before buying.
