Dated seller observations, not live quotes. Prices can change; tax and delivery are extra. Match the exact package shown below.

Check the connection before the channel count

Look for your TV’s HDMI eARC or ARC port and confirm the formats it can pass from your actual apps and devices. Optical cannot carry every Atmos format. “Wireless” subwoofers still need electrical power. Reflective height effects depend on the ceiling and room. A soundbar need not share your TV’s brand; check supported connections instead.

POLK AUDIO

Signa S4 · bar and subwoofer

A straightforward Atmos bar with a separate sub

Research pick
POLK AUDIO Signa S4 · bar and subwooferPhoto: POLK AUDIO
Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Signa S4 Dolby Atmos soundbar with supplied 5.9-inch wireless subwoofer; not Signa S2/S3, MagniFi or renewed unit.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

The Signa S4 combines a center channel, upward-firing height drivers and a wireless subwoofer. It is a practical first comparison when you want TV-focused audio and dialogue adjustment rather than a multiroom speaker platform.

  • 3.1.2-channel system with Dolby Atmos
  • Wireless subwoofer included
  • HDMI eARC/ARC, optical and auxiliary inputs
The tradeoff

The subwoofer needs floor space and power. Height effects depend on the room and content; this is not a rear-speaker system. We have not tested dialogue clarity or bass output.

SONOS

Beam (Gen 2) · standalone bar

A compact bar for a smaller TV setup

Research pick
SONOS Beam (Gen 2) · standalone barPhoto: SONOS
Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Beam Gen 2 standalone soundbar, Black; no Sub Mini or rear speakers, not Beam Ultra or first generation.

At about 25.6 inches wide, Beam fits furniture that a full-width bar may overwhelm. It supports Dolby Atmos through HDMI and Sonos music features without requiring a separate subwoofer in the starting package.

  • 25.63-inch-wide bar; HDMI eARC/ARC
  • Speech Enhancement and Night Sound
  • Optical adapter included; no subwoofer included
The tradeoff

Atmos uses processing rather than dedicated upward-firing drivers. Sonos app setup is required, and the documented Trueplay tuning requires a supported iOS device. Extra bass and surround speakers cost more.

JBL

Streaming music and a substantial separate sub

Research pick

Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the New Bar 500MK2 5.1 system, Black, with 10-inch wireless subwoofer; not original Bar500, renewed unit or added protection-plan bundle.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

This 5.1-channel system combines a soundbar with a 10-inch wireless subwoofer. A separate HDMI input, network streaming and room calibration make it a useful alternative when the bar will handle both TV audio and everyday music.

  • 37-inch-wide bar; 10-inch subwoofer
  • One HDMI input plus HDMI eARC output
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X processing
The tradeoff

It does not include physical rear speakers or upward-firing height drivers. The subwoofer requires a mains outlet and considerable space. The quoted maximum wattage is not a measured loudness or sound-quality ranking.

BOSE

Smart Ultra Soundbar · standalone bar

Room calibration and dialogue controls

Research pick

Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Smart Ultra standalone soundbar, Black; no bass module or rear speakers. Not Lifestyle Ultra, Smart Soundbar900 or renewed unit.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

The Smart Ultra includes upward-firing drivers, a center tweeter and an ADAPTiQ calibration headset. It suits a shopper who wants to tune a single bar to the room and adjust dialogue before deciding whether to add separate bass or surround speakers.

  • Dolby Atmos; two upward-firing drivers
  • ADAPTiQ headset and remote included
  • 41.14-inch-wide bar; HDMI eARC connection
The tradeoff

Bose app setup and calibration add steps. Bass modules and surround speakers are separate purchases. This is Smart Ultra, not the newer Lifestyle Ultra; check the exact product and compatible accessories.

SONOS

Arc Ultra · standalone bar

A wider Sonos bar with room to expand

Research pick
SONOS Arc Ultra · standalone barPhoto: SONOS
Cost to compareCheck current price

Check Amazon for the current price of the Arc Ultra standalone soundbar, Black; no Sub or rear speakers, not original Arc, Beam or renewed unit.

Check Amazon price ↗Affiliate link · We may earn a commission.

Arc Ultra is the larger Sonos choice for a TV space that can take a 46.38-inch-wide bar. Its driver array includes upward-firing tweeters, while Trueplay tuning and speech controls provide ways to tailor the presentation.

  • Dolby Atmos; upward-firing tweeters
  • HDMI eARC/ARC; Bluetooth music streaming
  • Trueplay supports compatible iOS and Android devices
The tradeoff

The package has no separate subwoofer or rear speakers. Its advertised 9.1.4 spatial experience is not fourteen physical speakers around your room. There is no extra HDMI input for a source device; expansion increases the total cost.
